5 Building Ideas You Don't Need a Set For
Following instructions is fun, but freestyle building trains your creativity. Here are five ideas where one 1 kg bag is more than enough.
1. Mosaic Portrait (1 kg, ~700 plates)
Use a 32×32 baseplate as your foundation. Sort your 1×1 plates by colour first. A simple portrait of a pet or a logo works brilliantly with just 5 colours.
2. Modular City Tile
Build a 16×16 tile with a mini-scene: a café, a little train station, a park bench. Combine several tiles on a long base to create your own LEGO® city.
3. Mechanical Creature (Technic Mix)
With the Technic pieces in a bag, you can build a walking creature, a fidget mechanism or a pull-along car. YouTube search term: 'LEGO walking creature'.
4. Storage Boxes for Your Collection
Meta-MOC: build your own boxes and lids to sort your loose bricks. 8×8 boxes with a 1-brick rim work best.
5. Stop-Motion Micro-Set
One bag = enough for 3–4 micro decorative pieces. Combine with your phone's camera and a stop-motion app to create your own short film.
No time for a detailed plan? Just grab a bag, empty it out and start sorting by colour. Often the idea emerges naturally from there.
